It's not that strange - this children's story stuff is the first sign that they're not going to manage to cut so efficiently, that there's going to be some big gaps that they won't be able to defend - so if they have something positive to point at, then attacking them over their failures will look opportunistic. Given that the Labour leadership race is over soon, there's going to be some pretty big attacks coming their way soon. You'd think.
