So it looks like the whole thing was a hoax, perpetrated by a couple of publicity-hungry parents. What gave it away is the opening part of this CNN interview with the family, in which the poor confused boy says, "You said we did this for the show." It's excruciating to watch, but everything about this clip is excruciating, including and especially Wolf Blitzer's handling of the whole thing: pompous and prosecutorial with the boy (after missing the story the first time around), and then retreating like a startled bunny when the father goes on the offensive. Pathetic.
