Madeleine Bunting is a Guardian columnist. She is always very enthusiastic about whatever she's read lately. In her latest column she announces that she's been reading "political philosophy". It's amazing apparently. Disarmingly, she confesses to being "as hazy on the subject as the next person" (you'd almost wonder why she gets paid to write about it). At least she can't be accused of false modesty. Here is a sample sentence:
The last generation has produced deeper and more pervasive injustice probably than at any time in history.
In case you need reminding why this would be a jaw-droppingly stupid thing to say after a couple of pints in the student bar, let alone write down and get published in a national newspaper, please consult Norm, who might actually have gone a lot further. Anyway, thank goodness for Madeleine, who performs a most valuable service: she makes her readers feel clever.
Is that Norm, the egalitarian?
