Andrew Sullivan and the reader he quotes are right to despair at how the obsessive anti-Obamaism of the conservative blogosphere is leading it to delight in Chicago's loss:
Criticizing a president is one thing - and important. Hoping he fails - even to the point of celebrating a national loss - is a sign of partisanship that has become pathologically blind to any sense of perspective or patriotism.
I wonder what the next Charles Krauthammer column will say? That Obama was wrong to rely on his charm; that negotiations were always futile; that we should have threatened the IOC with military action, and moved our tanks to the Danish border.
Presumably the issue of tanks on the Danish border was why Obama met suddenly with General McChrystal on the tarmac in Copenhagen!
Clearly, America will now have to withdraw from the IOC, just as some people are urging it to withdraw from the UN and from Afghanistan. And then the USA can hold "World Series" events in all the previously Olympic Sports, as they already do in baseball. That will stop those pesky commies winning our golds!
