The Democrats' rather cautious Senate leadership is going to take a mildly aggressive stance on the "public option", including it in their proposed bill (with a state opt-out) and forcing opponents to strip it out, rather than giving up the battle before it's joined. It's not exactly Braveheart but they are pleased with themselves:
“There is a growing sense that we need to lead on this issue and not wait for it to be offered on the Senate floor,” a senior Democratic aide said. “The idea is that it’s better to show some fight."
That last sentence in particular is one of those things that, if you have to say it...
ha. exactly.
