This is sort of a dumb argument, though. The food pyramid does not purport to be the end all be all of nutrition. The food pyramid is merely a guideline.

Personally, I wrote a computer program to track my nutrition each day by selecting which foods I consumed. However, for a person without my program or a similar one, it's infinitely easier to count five carrots and broccoli stalks and check that off his list for the day than to remember "OK, that's X mg of Vitamin A, Y IU of Vitamin E, etc."
