Last month I wrote about the unusually intense relationship between NYT columnist David Brooks and the president, and last week I picked up on a column in which Brooks mentioned that he'd been called by four (count 'em) senior administration officials about his recent critiques of Obama's spending plans. I speculated that one of them was Rahm Emanuel. Turns out I aimed too low. In this Times pundit conversation Gail Collins asks Brooks if it's true that, as she has heard, one of those people was the Big Man himself (not that Rahm is little, although he is). Brooks does not deny it.
Given that Brooks remarks that when he says senior he means senior we can take a guess at the others. Rahm, The Orz, and... ?
So perhaps BHO is shaping up to be less like FDR or JFK and more like that Tiberius-of-the-Telephone, LBJ.
