Nate Silver, the statistical savant who pretty much predicted how everyone would vote in 2008 and then told us why they voted the way they did, has turned his geeky superpowers to the relatively trivial task of predicting next week's Oscars. Slumdog to win Best Film, Winslet Best Actress, and Bill Clinton to win Best Supporting (well, he would in my world).
I think his predictions are very solid. I don't think Taraji from Benjamin Button will win, though, for best supporting actress. But who am I to argue with logistical regression? I took a class on using regression to analyze energy markets, so I know that it's not just plug-n-chug for the math.
Creating a regression to analyze is an artform, and Nate has got it pretty down. His Chicago uni education has done him well thus far.

Bill was gunning for Best Supporting Dude, or Best First Dude, but alas, had no joy.
