One of the great fascinations of contemporary American politics is watching Bill Clinton's psychological struggle with the fact that's he no longer president unfold in public. This week, he has some very public advice for Obama:
"I like trying to educate the American people about the dimensions and scope of this economic crisis," Clinton said. "I just would like him to end by saying that he is hopeful and completely convinced we're gonna come through this."
This comes a couple of days after we saw Clinton fix his interviewer with that moist gaze and declare that the stimulus package is "our bridge over troubled water". Of course, the person he was really addressing was Obama - hey, check this out.
Can't he just use a Blackberry like everyone else? Having said that, I suspect one of the main tasks of the White House's security team is to prevent Obama's email address from falling into the hands of the former president.
