Unnoticed amongst the inaugural celebrations was the news of a dog that didn't bark. George Bush had been expected to issue pardons to those who might face prosecution for their implication in the torture of suspects in the war on terror. Well, he didn't. Good for him, I say. He evidently decided he didn't want to leave office with yet another bucket of shit being poured over him (he had Bill Clinton's example to bear in mind).
Not everyone will be congratulating Bush on his restraint. One man in particular is mightily pissed off:
Asked for his reaction to Bush's decision Cheney said: "Scooter Libby is one of the most capable and honorable men I've ever known. He's been an outstanding public servant throughout his career. He was the victim of a serious miscarriage of justice, and I strongly believe that he deserved a presidential pardon. Obviously, I disagree with President Bush's decision."
