Mario Cuomo, the former Democratic governor of New York and a big figure on the national stage during the 1980s, renowned for his eloquence, does not like to sit still. Officials at the New York statehouse in Albany have been trying to get him to sit for a portrait so that they can display it with all the others in the Hall of Governors. But Cuomo has so far refused, prompting an official to consider choosing an image of him without his consent. The ever-helpful New York Times has therefore commissioned four portraits of him by illustrator Thomas Fuchs in the style of Andy Warhol, R. Crumb, Mondrian, and Picasso. Which makes for a great front page. (Via Hertzberg). You can view each portrait here.
