But anyway: who won?
Both candidates did very well. They weren't warned of Warren's questions, many of which were hard to respond to on the spot. Both were poised and composed, and came across as thoughtful, sincere, likeable and intelligent (in fact it's the first sign that this election might actually live up to some high expectations). So on the night, a draw - or maybe McCain just edged it.
In other words, Obama won. The audience - both in the hall and beyond it - is mostly made up of people who are likely to vote Republican anyway. Most of them also know John McCain better than they know Barack Obama. That Obama was invited and was seen talking fluently about his faith and generally came across a regular kind of guy (and not a celebrity hubris-filled muslim anti-christ) means that he gains more out of this than McCain.
