Listen, Evan, it's a done deal, but there's one thing you gotta to do for me: fix that haircut, dude. It looks like your mom cut it when she was drunk.
The veep chatter around Evan Bayh is reaching fever pitch. Obama visited his state today - Indiana, a Red state that Obama has a slim chance of turning Blue - held a rally and then worked a diner with Senator Bayh, filmed by what looked liked an Obama ad crew. Bayh is a solid, somewhat bland midwestern kind of a guy, and was a firm Clinton supporter during the primaries (so choosing him might cheer Bill up). He certainly won't rival Obama for charisma. But he's a reassuring presence, very popular in Indiana, and his ability to appeal to voters across the board has seen him talked of as a possible presidential or vice-presidential pick for several years now.
Bayh wouldn't be the most exciting pick, but then excitement is overrated in veep choices (as George Bush Snr might tell you, with hindsight). The first rule of veep picking is 'do no harm' and on that basis Bayh is probably a good choice.
