Obama has thrown the head of his veep-search operation, Jim Johnson, under the bus, after Johnson was attacked for being linked with some shady business practices. It's getting crowded down there. Jim - meet the Reverend Wright. Sure you two have a lot in common.
It's a rum one, this. Obama has immediately distanced himself from Johnson and the other two (still employed) veep-vetters, which as Jim Hoagland says is enough to make you wonder if they broke into his campaign headquarters, stole some headed notepaper and appointed themselves to the role. Up until yesterday Obama was dismissing all the criticism as a 'game' not to be taken seriously.
So is his capitulation a sign of a wise determination not to let bad storylines develop? Or does it make his campaign look like a pushover? It's hardly likely to make the Republican attack machine less likely to call for the head of whichever Obama aide runs into bad news next...
