Is it really true that the FCO recruited people from Brighton Polytechnic? Surely not openly! I can't imagine anyone's career going very far in the British Foreign Service if it became known to their superiors that they'd once attended a poly!

How is it that the British Foreign Service has become such an object of scorn? In Canada, the papers reported recently about the Ottawa high commission's focus on gossipy views on the lives of politicians and opinions on artists. How far things have slid since the days of reliable and noble service to Crown and country.
