It's one of those bizarre, unexpected effects of the political ecosystem: the Tories are being forced on to the defensive at home because an American president is pursuing more government involvement in his country's healthcare system.
Here's the latest thing to unsettle the Conservative leadership. Rogue Tory Daniel Hannan - who gained some celebrity in the States after his attack on Gordon Brown went viral - talks to Fox meathead Sean Hannity (the one who looks and sounds like one of Tony Soprano's dimmer henchmen), to "warn" America away socialised healthcare, dissing the NHS in the process. Just as much of the population here is reaffirming its love for it. On David Cameron's list of things he needs, this is the very last item.
(Did you notice that at one point Hannan says that he's looking to Fox to restore sanity to the debate? Ahem.)
