Karl Rove, in his Wall Street Journal column, takes a critical look at the nascent organisation of Obama's White House, probing for areas of potential dysfunction. Rove is, of course, an authority on competent governing, as the people of Iraq and New Orleans will be the first to attest. The article includes this piece of hard-won wisdom:
Mr. Obama is assembling a strong and intelligent team of people with
muscular views and large personalities. Will the individual parts
cohere into a well-functioning whole? Things that sound good often work
