Obama is booking a thirty-minute ad on all the national networks, a week before the election. How much must that cost? I wonder how he's going to fill the time: maybe he could do some deals on tee-shirts and baseball caps.
It actually sounds like a good, albeit expensive way to help some voters over the hump in that last week. There will be lots of voters who don't want to vote for McCain but aren't quite sure about this Obama guy...they've heard some things...and they'll need a bit of extra persuasion. And so far, the best persuasion for Obama has been to put himself in front of people unmediated by news media or emails.
Interesting that Obama's ad spend has been much more national than other candidates in recent elections, who have focused almost exclusively on buying time in local markets. His campaign has clearly calculated that they need to make him a truly national figure before they can convert people at the local level.
