Politico's John Harris has a terrific piece up in which he guesses at the advice Bill Clinton might have given Obama today. The whole thing is worth reading but I like this bit especially:
Though he did not always follow his own advice, Clinton believes humor is one tool that can help a politician connect with audiences and convey toughness rather than whininess.
Mark Penn, the Clintons’ longtime pollster and strategist, said Obama may have listened too closely to people urging him to “fight back, fight back.”
“He’s got to learn how to completely eviscerate the guy with a smile,” he said.
I agree. How is it that throughout the lipstick episode and the general leaping on anything that might conceivably be interpreted as a sexist insult to Palin, it's the Obama campaign that has come off as whiners?
They should have been laughing this stuff off as PC whining from a desperate gang.
McCain looks like he's enjoying himself right now. Obama just looks offended.
